I've always found that when you put something on, you know. There's a...a sense of how it drapes and how it falls, whether it does so with your body or against it.
And of course mirrors in the dressing rooms help. But I'd imagine we want something in a pastel or pale color, with flow. You're very slim, something formfitting would hang awkwardly on you. Something with layers and loose, flowing fabric would help create an illusion of...a more robust form, we'll say.
[Because to simply point out 'it will make you look less sickly and wan' is hardly polite.]
[Angel wouldn't have argued with the woman if she had said it. There was no sense dodging around the point. She might have gotten a little better, but seven months wouldn't even come close to mending the damage done by the course of five years.]
See, this is why I am in desperate need of your help!
Perhaps another time we could sit down and exchange such unpleasant stories.
But let's not trouble what should be an exciting time with bad memories on both of our parts. I very much would like to go shopping with you, whenever you are available.
[And so, that was where she waited once Wednesday came around. Where Angel might have been nervous to meet with other friends, she felt nothing but relaxed as she waited for Lust. The woman had a strange way of making her feel at ease, and they'd known each other long enough for her not to feel like she had to put on any sort of airs for the woman.]
[Even if she had it in her to be nervous, her excitement would have overridden that. This venture was nothing if not a foray into the sorts of things that Angel had never been able to do. Dress shopping with a friend was a staple of ever romantic ECHOcast she'd come across.]
[Remove the Pokemon and the strange background music, and you had Angel feeling almost normal.]
]Lust arrives in a relatively simple but well cut dark green sweater dress, her hair in a thick braid over one shoulder. Her shiny Houndoom is with her, as he always is when she visits with Angel or Timothy.]
[As was common, and perhaps just as Lust was familiar with, Angel had to take a moment to study the woman. There was no hidden motive to her gaze, no churning of emotion, just a bewildered appreciation for her almost ethereal beauty.]
[She had, at least, gotten better at speaking to her.]
Absolutely! You'll have to lead the way though, I'm afraid.
Honestly, the main department store here has quite a selection, but there are boutiques in downtown Goldenrod. And seamstresses, but with the limited time, having something made would be terribly impractical.
[Lust wastes no time in leading on, used to the effect she has on people. Amoz pads along beside, ever watchful.]
Do you have a color preference or preferred palette?
Perhaps next year I will prepare in advance -- talk to a seamstress in February or March. These things happen yearly, yes? I certainly can't go wrong with being ready early.
[Angel didn't need but a second to mull over Lust's question. Perhaps she should have shied away from the color her projections were once affiliated with, but for whatever reason, it still stuck with her.]
A light blue, perhaps bordering on the cyan? What about you?
Maybe something red this year...I have to admit, it's nice being with someone who isn't frightened of my body. I like things that are fitted, things that are low cut. My husband had a religious sense of modesty.
[Which had informed Lust's fashion choices, in a variety of ways. Timothy, on the other hand, wasn't bothered or made uncomfortable by her more daring dresses. And she likes his reactions.]
I am glad that you and your partner are able to reach a compromise.
[Angel might have preferred modesty for herself, but she didn't expect it for anyone else. It wasn't her place to past judgement on others. That also, of course, applied to Lust's husband. He had his reasons., and she didn't know them.]
I know I say this a lot, but I am very happy for you two.
We didn't even need to go that lengths, he just...doesn't care what I wear or how I dress. I've never been possessed of much modesty, it's not something I was raised with. And I work very hard to look the way I do. Human bodies need so much upkeep...
[Even just to be passably functional! To go above and beyond...Lust spends a great deal of her time at her vanity or in the bathroom, tending to the dozens of little physical things that require it.]
But thank you. It's...well, it's been half of a year, now.
[Really, Angel wasn't surprised -- but she'd struggled so much with gaining weight again that she was a bit... taken aback. Perhaps it also helped that Lust made her physique and demeanor look almost effortless.]
[But then, she supposed that she'd never seen the woman late at night or early in the morning.]
Almost as long as I've been here! [She lifted a hand, stifling a laugh.] I really think he needs someone like you, and from what I've noticed, he 's very sweet and attentive. Perfect for you.
Oh god yes. Between maintaining a certain weight - for professional reasons, my brother has to be able to catch me and fling me about at great heights - and the day to day effect... it's a ridiculous amount of effort. Hair care, skin care, makeup, supportive underthings, shaving, tweezing, pinning and taping things so they stay where they ought...I have a corset and a girdle on right now.
[It was so much easier as a homunculus, all of that just...was. She didn't need to work at it. There are some things she misses about her inhuman nature, if she's honest.]
He's very sweet. But most importantly, we understand each other. That's vital to a romantic relationship, the ability to understand one another.
[The siren could have sworn she got both dizzy and achy at the mere reference to Lust's efforts. She never thought her own efforts of brushing her hair and teeth, washing her face and putting on clothes was that complicated, sure, but she also didn't think people had to go to that extent to prepare themselves.]
[It was hard to imagine, having the patience for all that.]
More or less. There's more effort needed, when I'm performing or going out for the evening. I like to look a certain way, it requires a great deal of effort. And there's weekly manicures and pedicures, trips to the hair salon, the spa...
[And dozens of other things that she does to maintain her appearance.]
[There were, admittedly, a lot of things that Angel hadn't understood about Lust's explanation, but the bizarre words she had just used stuck out the most.]

I was given the name 'Lust' by my master for a reason.

My weekdays are generally free, any afternoon will do.

Wednesday then? Is that fair? That gives us plenty of time to perhaps switch methods and try another place on Thursday, if need be.

[It just does, once a year, along with all the other things that have become normalcy in this world.]
Blue suits you. I tend to favor dark greens and purples, but...we'll see.

[Angel allowed her eyes to slide shut as she walked, letting herself envision Lust in both green and purple. A smile crept over her lips.]
It seems like it would be lovely on you. I can't wait to see what you wind up picking in the end.

[Lust pauses and turns to Angel, holding out her hand with her painted, neatly filed and manicured nails. Dark purple this week.]
Professionals pamper your hands and shape and decorate your nails for you. It's very soothing.
