[How did she respond? She was as safe as she could be, traversing caves and mountainous paths, both inherently dangerous places. She had her Pokemon to protect her, and enough supplies to get her through. Somehow though, she doubted Krieg would be comfortable knowing she was adventuring on her own though.]
I am traveling right now. But I think I will be okay.
[She hated being so guarded, but she didn't want to risk giving away any details that might have revealed her location. What she needed more than anything was space and time to think.
If given the chance, Krieg would chase her across the ends of the earth with no regard to his own health.]
[It's been...hell, over a week since...since he woke up in the hospital. He hasn't seen her at all in the time he's managed to stay awake, and the nurses haven't seen her, either. He's asked.]
[ It was a question she had both been expecting and dreading. For over a year, they'd been inseparable. Even now, knowing what a risk she posed, she still felt herself longing for his company. She couldn't imagine what the foolhardy psycho felt.
Once, she would have sworn she had an answer for him. Now, as she stared at the message, she couldn't grasp onto the words. ]
You should be resting. You were seriously wounded.
[He stares in dismay for a long, long time at the words she texted back. There's a twisting, biting pain in his chest that has nothing to do with his recent injuries.
He wants to scream, and thrash, and rage, do something, anything, that might ease the sharp stabbing bite of despair, but he's learned enough self-restraint over the past year to crush the urge down as soon as it rises up. He doesn't want to make life harder for the nurses here, or the other patients, and he's cognizant enough to realize it won't do a bit of good, anyway. It'll still hurt when he's finished. There's no point.
He should have done as she'd asked, before. By not listening to her, he's hurt her, something he swore he would never, ever do. He can't take it back - there's no undoing the past, as he's more than aware. There is only living in the present, and looking toward the future.
It's a very long time before he replies, but he finally does, just one word - acknowledging both the words she gave him and the answer she implied.]
